Decorating a Studio Apartment

0701a1-14When you live in a studio apartment, the one room must function in a variety of ways – typically as a bedroom, living room, office, and dining room, not to mention storage. In order to maximize the small space, it’s all about the floor plan.

Since you don’t have much options for storing your belongings, a built-in makes a great addition to a studio apartment. When beautifully arranged, your built-in serves as a focal point that is not only functional but decorative. Showcase books and pictures, and utilize baskets to organize anything unsightly, like phone chargers and computer cords.

0706o2-14When you’re ready to call it a day, slide your center built-in shelves to the left and right to reveal a built-in wall bed. As you drop the bed down at night, your shelves serve as your night stands.

Just because you live in a small apartment doesn’t mean you’re stuck with small furniture. Oftentimes a large sectional with a chaise works better for entertaining than smaller, choppier pieces. For your home office needs, place a desk or table against a wall by the entrance and tuck storage ottomans beneath it. Not only does it give you easy access to items that you want kept out of sight, but you can also pull the ottomans out for extra seating for guests.

When decorating your studio apartment, remember function comes first. Let your needs define the space.
