Fall 2015 Design Trends Recap

2015 design trends

The fall season brought us amazing design trends this year! With 2015 coming to a close in the next few weeks, let’s take a look back on some of the fall’s hottest trends in design:

Reclaimed Wood

Influences From Nature:  After years of dark wood trending in design, we saw a refreshing amount of light wood used in 2015. Light-wooded cabinets and tables brightened up living spaces, dining rooms, and offices alike, and paired well with the other trend of upholstered wooden furniture pieces. Incorporating nature into interior design exploded in 2015, with the use of rustic, reclaimed pieces of furniture that featured rough or open-grained texturing. We saw reclaimed wood used throughout the home, from credenzas to shelving units and even light fixtures! Nature in design wasn’t just about lighter, reclaimed Animal Printwoods though. Nature-inspired accessories were a huge trend throughout the fall of 2015, from decorative hardware, to animal-inspired wall ornaments. While zebra and cow hides have been on the market for quite some time, we saw them used throughout interior design on everything from rugs and chairs to throw pillows and decorative screen prints.  Bamboo, sea grass, and wood grain were also contenders in nature-inspired design throughout the fall.

Black and WhiteNeutral Color Schemes
:  Neutral colors played a huge role throughout the fall. Gray was an ever-popular color in furnishings and on walls. Working gray into your decor made it an extremely versatile space, leaving plenty of wiggle room for pops of bold color. We saw various shades of gray used, from cool to warmer shades. Black and white also made a resurgence throughout the fall. White furnishings looked stunning Graywith polished nickel hardware, while black pieces paired well with brass accents, which we saw a lot of in lighting fixtures and cabinets. In terms of accent colors, silver and gold continued to be used throughout home decor. Vases, lamp shades, mirrors, and other unique pieces were used in shades of silver and gold to accent spaces.
Blue and White
Bold Pops of Color
:  The brave home owner dared to be bold during the fall! This design trend featured bright fabrics, vibrant artwork, and a variety of distinguished colors throughout other home accents. Blue was a popular color in this trend that was often paired with a crisp, clean white. We also saw shades of red, green and yellow used to create pops of color this past fall.

Modern Style

Mod-Geo Styles:  Transitional, modern pieces of furniture were exceedingly popular this year. Smaller furnishings with clean lines and neutral colors became especially coveted among Baby Boomers. Playing to the belief that “less is more,” many people started scaling back when it came to interior design. We saw a very minimalistic approach to decorating throughout the fall this year, paired with geometric accessories, abstract paintings and accessories made of contorted metals.

Whimsical Plush
Fabulous Furnishings
:  Whimsy, plush faux pieces were also very popular. Chairs, ottomans, and throws were available in couture, soft designs and added a feminine flare. StorageAnother furniture trend we picked up on during the fall was multi-tasking pieces. Space savers became extremely popular, from multi-functional desks to cocktail tables with hidden built-in ottomans. These types of furnishings played to the minimalistic trend and made it easy for homeowners to scale back on furniture.

360 Design360-Degree Furniture:  As we’ve seen in the past year, open
floor plans have become increasingly popular, which has left furniture to appear as if it were “floating” in a space. In an effort to make furniture more appealing to the eye, you can now find furniture that has been designed 360 Design 2all the way around, or in a 360-degree view. These pieces of furniture make a statement no matter what way you look at them, and fit perfectly into the open floor plan interior design trend. You can find 360-degree furniture in various forms, including dining chairs, sectionals, and recliners, making them perfect for homes that are small on square footage but have an open floor plan!
