Where To Find Design Inspiration

To start any project, you need inspiration. It’s what motivates us and drives us from the beginning of a project until its completion. If you’re ready to redecorate your home and not sure where to begin, don’t worry! We’ve compiled a list of six of our favorite places to find design inspiration that will trigger your creative juices and get you rolling.

Designspiration

Designspiration is a place to discover and share designs. It was created in 2010 by Visual Designer and Entrepreneur Shelby White. On this site, you can search for specific topics or colors and save and organize what you like. For example, if you are thinking about designing a modern living room, you could search for something like ‘modern neutral room’ and save photos that match those descriptions, resulting in brand new ideas.

Pinterest

Pinterest is one of the most popular places people go for design inspiration. You can create digital vision boards of images you admire and want to replicate. For example, if you are looking to design a child’s bedroom, search that phrase and pin the results to your designated design board. When you genuinely don’t have an idea of what you want, Pinterest is a great place to start because there are thousands of pins that can spark an idea. You can also discover blog posts that go into more detail about designing a space.

Magazines

Whether you’re paging through a family, woman’s interest, or even a parenting magazine, there are bound to be photos and articles that will speak to you from a home design point. If you want something that’s more interior design-focused, check out Architectural Digest. You can bookmark pages with rooms you love or clip photos so you can reference them when starting to source products for your home.

Friends/Family

Talking to a family member or friend is a great way to bounce around ideas. Plus, they can give you feedback and offer up their thoughts. Maybe they have a home you admire, and you can learn where they shopped for accessories, how they chose their furniture, etc. Having a conversation is one of the easiest ways to find inspiration.

Traveling

Not only does traveling put your world into perspective, but it also causes you to think differently and can inspire you in all aspects of life, including design. You could see a unique piece of furniture or an eclectic combination of colors and get flooded with ideas of how you can incorporate these pieces into your design plans. For example, maybe you saw a beautiful tile mosaic in Spain that serves as the inspiration for your kitchen’s backsplash.

Instagram

Instagram is home to many visually creative people throughout the world. On this app, you can choose to follow famous designers, look up design-related hashtags, or simply scroll for ideas. For example, if you are designing a dining room, you could look up “#diningroom” in the search bar and hundreds of pictures of dining rooms will show up. You are also able to save the image so you can go back to it.
