High Point Trends 2019

West Chester, NY Interior Designer

The High Point, North Carolina furniture market is a treasure cove of ideas for interior designers. The market, which consists of over 180 buildings, features more than 3,000 exhibitors who come with the latest and greatest in home décor. Marina Colella stock-piled notes on what’s trending for home design in 2019 – discover what elements you could work into your home décor!

Colors

Color is always a trend homeowners are eager to know about. Sherwin Williams and Pantone publish their “Color of the Year” annually, which certainly affects the way most people buy, but these colors typically have more of an influence on the clothing market. When it comes to trending colors in home design, the buying cycles are slower, which means you’re less likely to find furnishings that feature majorly trendy colors.

For 2019, the colors that have major staying power in home design include:

  • Blue. This color can be both classic and current. When it comes to home décor, blue can often be used as a neutral. From a rich, dark navy to cobalt and even sea glass, the home furnishings industry is embracing blue as a neutral hue.
  • Green. Pantone announced Greenery as the color of the year in 2017, which has led to an increase home accents in every shade from eucalyptus to emerald. This color works especially well in outdoor home décor.
  • Blush. 2019’s accent color of choice, blush is a beautiful, soft pale pink that dominates the world of pastels. Other pale hues like lavender and berry have also grown in popularity, but for 2019, all roads point to pink. Blush makes for a stunning accent wall, in artwork, or within accent furnishings.
  • Gray. The newest to the neutral family, gray allows you to create a style that is cool and transitional. From wallcoverings to upholstered furnishings, gray continues to be a popular color across the board in home décor.

Furnishings

  • Performance Fabric. When you hear the term “performance fabric,” you probably think of dri-fit gym clothes or athleisure, but performance fabrics have made their way into the world of upholstery, too! Many furniture retailers are offering pieces upholstered with performance fabric, making it easier for homeowners to invest in furnishings that will stand up to the test of time and life’s little messes.
  • Curves. From beautifully crafted chairs and sofas with swirling arms to decorative headboards and accent pieces, curves are trending in furniture design for 2019. These elaborate furnishings serve as functional accent pieces in any room in your home.
  • Natural Textures. The green hues found in nature may be a trending color for 2019, but so are natural elements like reclaimed wood, stone, and hair on hide. Textured and tribal themed fabrics are also on the rise, as they complement these decorative natural elements.
  • Acrylics. Clear acrylic furnishings allow you to achieve the look of glass without any risk of breaking it. These items are ideal for homes with young children or pets. Acrylic can be used to make virtually any kind of home furnishing, from coffee tables to dining room chairs. Plus, you can find acrylic pieces at varying price points, as it’s used in high- and low-end markets.
  • Accent Tables. No living space is complete without the addition of an accent table. While accent tables aren’t anything new to the design world, the amount of variety available continues to develop. There are so many ways to design a small table, making it easy to find one that fits perfectly within any room in your home.

Lifestyle Designs

The ways in which we design and decorate our homes rely heavily on the lives we lead, as well as our jobs, where we live, and of course, our finances. While we can work within any design style of your choosing, here are some lifestyle designs that are trending for 2019:

  • Rustic Farmhouse. Made popular by design shows on television, the farmhouse style is similar to country décor but with more shabby-chic items. You’ll find plenty of reclaimed wood elements and natural fabrics that give the space a warm, cozy feel.
  • Mid-Century Modern. One of the most prolific design styles of all time, the mid-century modern look derives its style from the best of the 1950’s and 60’s to create a retro-Danish feel. Simple silhouettes, organic shapes, and functionality are all hallmarks in this style of design.
  • Contemporary. Unlike mid-century modern design, contemporary draws inspiration from more current, modern trends. Think clean, minimally decorated spaces. Metal and glass are popular elements in the contemporary style.
  • Coastal. Coastal décor is all about creating a look that’s light and breezy. From the vibrant neutrals found on a sunny beach day to lightweight textiles like rattan, coastal living is achievable in any room in your home but is perfect for those who have an outdoor living space.
